Basic Questions!

What kind of dolls are those? Do you make them?
My dolls are Asian Ball Jointed Dolls, most often referred to as ABJDs, BJDs, or dollfies. Search any of those, particularly dollfie, and you'll get a sharp shard of google responses.

In a nutshell, BJDs are highly customisable resin dolls.

The eyes and hair (which is a wig, just like a people wig 8D) are both removable and can be changed very easily. My dolls stand about knee-height and can sit and stand (some easier than others) on their own. You can paint them (called a faceup, generally the eyebrows/lashes and lips on a dolls face) again and again in any style you desire. The head and bodies can also be interchanged (provided the resin is the same colour and the neck and head fit together) and you can buy clothes/shoes/accessories for them in pretty much any style humans can wear.

I do not make them. I make things for them and paint them, but I don't make the actual doll.

How much are they?
The most expensive doll I've ever bought set me back $950, the least expensive doll cost me about $400. They really vary in price depending on the company, size, and availability. They are expensive, but each to their own. I don't mind spending the money on them, quite obviously!

They're so expensive!
People say I spend so much money on dolls, but I don't, really. I don't buy a doll a week. I've been collecting dolls for two and a half, nearly three years - and I have nine, which is like... three-four a year. People have hobbies, they spend money on different things. To say it's stupid for me to spend $100 a week on dolls is like telling someone it's stupid buying shoes, or DVDs, or games. I don't shell out the money regularly - I save it and spend it eventually ^^

They are expensive, but I think it's worth it. Each to their own ^^


Where can I get a cheap doll? How much do you spend on your dolls?

There are many doll companies offering many different priced dolls. If you are after a cheap doll, this is not the hobby you're after. If you're still hooked - Save. It's not hard, I bought my first doll without a job. I sold a lot and went without. Easy. Dolls are far cheaper these days - with the current economy many Korean stores have lowered their prices.

The most expensive 60cm doll I've ever bought was $950. The least expensive was about $400. Or free, if you count Mystic As for how much I've spent on their stuff, lets not go there. It's my money, right? 8D

Which molds do you own? How tall are they? Where'd you get them from?

All of my dolls are around 60cm tall. Going by my own measurements:

Logan and Dak are limited molds and are no longer available to buy. Hayden and Toru are only available in limited order periods (usually every 2-3 months for Migidoll, not sure about Dollgru) Eiji is only available to buy as a girl doll. Den of Angels has a marketplace in which you can find them all secondhand. You can also try ebay ^^

I do not own both of the twins. The other, Maki, belongs to my roommate, =aoi-chii <3

Did you paint your dolls?
I painted Vin, Logan, Eiji, Dak, and Toru. Hayden was painted by Ladious (who you can commission through DOA), Hiko and Mystic are Crobidoll custom faceups.

How did you do Logan's piercings?
Jump rings (used in jewellery making for the most part) and the ends of pins. I cut them down to size with wire cutters, and glued them on his face with tacky glue 8D It takes a lot of patience on my part XD

Do you take faceup commissions?
Sometimes. Not often. I'll post if I am.

What do you use to do your faceups?
I use Mr. Hobby acrylic paints, chalk pastels (My favourite brand is Schmincke) and water colour pencils (Faber-Castel and Derwent). I gloss using Mr. Hobby clear gloss, sometimes mixing it with a bit of liquitex iridescent acrylic medium. I use Mr. Super Clear Flat to seal ^^

Are your dolls for sale?
Not unless I say. Sometimes I sell them. Keep an eye out, I guess XD

Who are you on other sites/forums etc?
I am hiritai on pretty much everything I belong to. Possibly aerynface, too. Just ask if you're not sure <3

What camera do you use?
I currently use a Nikon D90 with a 35mm 1.8 or a 60mm 2.8 macro. My older shots were done with a Canon 400D with a 50mm 1.8.

I don't do camera bias, they're all the same as far as people go. Each to their own. I like different things about each camera <3

Do you edit your photos before you submit them?
Always. Lately I've been less inclined, but I always sharpen/colour fix etc. No, they might not always need it but I'm never going for that natural look. I like to edit photos 8D

Can I use your photo for...?
Sure! Just note me and ask first and let me know where it's being used. You don't need to credit me, just don't say it's yours ^^

However! I don't like people using my pictures in RPs and for visual examples for their stories, or for examples for commissions. I know it sounds weird, but these are dolls that represent my own characters, and I don't feel comfortable for their images to be used to represent other characters. I am sorry but that is how I feel, and please respect it.

Character Questions!

Why do your dolls have characters?
My dolls are like.. avatars of certain characters from my stories and previous roleplaying escapades. When I ramble on about "Eiji likes guns", I don't mean the doll - I mean the character.

These questions are mostly related to that story behind them ^^

Hayden

Is Hayden a god?
No. That's the best way I can describe him, though. Ana/Hayden is part of the Ortarans, a humanoid race from a duo of planets far, far from whereever you're thinking. Through some unfortunate circumstances, he and six others were separated from the main race, and found home on Earth. Ana's memory had been wiped before this journey, as punishment for a crime he and his twin brother, Fate, didn't commit. Fate's punishment was that he could never tell anyone of who his brother once was, and was physically incapable of sharing that kind of information with anyone.

Fate and the others, having left Ortar at at point in which it was thought the planet would be destroyed, believe themselves to be the only ones left. Ana has no understanding of the Ortaran culture he comes from, as the other six have convinced him they are the only seven of their kind, and always have been. Fate, the only one against this, was unable to tell him they were lying.

Hayden is obnoxiously powerful, the Ortarans/Shul have control over every aspect of matter and energy, and manipulate it to whichever purpose they desire. Not all of them have the same power - Hayden is much more powerful than Dak, for example, but Fate has more power than Hayden.

Using this power, the seven Ortarans manipulated life on Earth and toyed with evolution, speeding the process for some and slowing it for others. Fate generally takes much more part in these games, and Hayden has long abandoned the challenge. He and Fate no longer have the relationship they once did, and consider each other their rival.

Otarans... Shul?
Ortar is a planet, Ortarans are those who live on it. The Shul are Ortarans who live on Earth, named after the Shul, the ship in which they came to Earth in. Ortarans sent thousands of ships out into space as a desperate attempt to find a new planet, as their own was soon to be consumed by a dying star.

Hayden, Fate, Tate and Valkjri are Ortaran, and Dak is the last of the Shul (after Fate killed the rest in attempt to hide their existence from Hayden)

Logan

What's up with Logan's eye?
Logan's left eye is a Seer eye, and allows him to see into the Umbraneath, or the spirit world of his native world, the Umbra. He considers it traumatising, and hardly a gift. The only thing that tames the visions seems to be alcohol, weed, and/or his lover >D He was actually born with both eyes this way, but his older brother, Patt, gave him one of his own eyes.
But yes, Logan is pretty much blind in that left eye, save for dead people and creepy predictions.
